Letter From the Editor: We're Hiring a Managing Editor To Advance Our Journalism
This journalist will be a critical member of our team, overseeing and reporting journalism that informs the community and holds the powerful accountable.
Dear Reader:
I’m excited to announce that The Rambler is hiring a Managing Editor to advance our journalism and support our growth as a hyper-local and investigative digital media outlet.
This journalist will be a critical member of our team, overseeing and reporting journalism that informs the community, exposes wrongdoing, uncovers societal ills and holds the powerful accountable. You can find the full job description at this link.
We’re able to make this hire thanks to more readers who stepped up during our end-of-year fund drive to join as supporting members. Thank you to all who contributed! To date, hundreds of Rambler readers have become supporting members, often contributing $10 a month because they care about having an informed community.
Rambler members benefit from the ability to post comments on stories and to read archived stories from our pre-2023 paywall days, as well as the warm fuzzy feeling of keeping local journalism alive. If you’re not yet a sustaining member, now is still a great time to join! We’ll need more reader members in the years ahead to keep our momentum going.
Speaking of, this is a fun time at The Rambler.
In October, we brought on board Jeff Sturgeon, veteran investigative reporter at The Roanoke Times, to report and to manage our growing advertising sales operation. And in July, we’ll host a Report For America reporter whose beat is dedicated to explaining Roanoke’s residential segregation and its lasting impact. We’re one of only seven newsrooms in Virginia since 2018 to participate in this national service program. Our new Managing Editor will help mentor our RFA journalist and also provide a new byline to readers.
Ultimately, the addition of another top-tier journalist means for you what it does for our mission: More and better journalism for Roanoke, about Roanoke.
Thank you so much for continuing to support local news.
Sincerely,
Henri Gendreau
